Appointed to the seat vacated by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, New York's Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand took office in January '09 and was elected to the post in '10. She previously served two terms in the House, where she co-founded the Congressional High Tech Caucus and was a member of the Blue Dog Coalition. Gillibrand holds a law degree from UCLA School of Law, worked as an attorney in NYC and served as special counsel to the HUD secretary during the Clinton administration.
